I’ve not bought the DJI Neo 2… yet.

But after watching what feels like every single video on YouTube, every first-look, every slow-mo sample, every excited reviewer yelling ā€œTHIS IS ACTUALLY GOOD!ā€, I’m now at the point where the upgrade is looking very likely.

Here’s my full breakdown — in my words — of why the Neo 2 looks like the proper upgrade the original Neo (my beloved Sneaker) always needed.

šŸŒ„

Why I Bought the Original Neo in the First Place

The little Neo has always been my toss-it-in-the-bag drone.

Light. Quick. Easy. Perfect for those van-life moments where you pull up, see a view, and think:

ā€œRight. Let’s get a quick orbit in before the kettle boils.ā€

But it had limits.

We all knew it.

āŒ No real obstacle avoidance

āŒ 4K/30 video only

āŒ Storage that filled up far too fast

āŒ Dynamic range that sometimes made the sky look like it had given up

Brilliant for quick fun clips — but not quite up to the level I want for proper Nix Drones travel footage.

What the Neo 2 Brings — And Why It’s Turning My Head

🧠

Actual Obstacle Avoidance (THANK YOU, DJI!)

This is what every reviewer is raving about.

The Neo 2 has:

  • Omnidirectional vision sensors

  • Forward LiDAR

  • Downward infrared

In other words:

It no longer feels like you’re flying a brave little crisp packet through danger.

Everything I’ve watched shows the Neo 2 avoiding branches, walls, poles… and even people. Perfect for those slightly dodgy shots in tight lay-bys or coastal paths.

4K/60fps & 4K/100fps Slow-Mo — Serious Upgrade

Every sample clip I’ve watched has the same vibe:

This drone finally looks cinematic.

Smooth pans.

Clean detail.

Low-light that actually holds up.

And 60fps is the sweet spot I wanted on the original Neo.

The wider f/2.2 aperture is also noticeable — golden hour shots look warmer and way more professional.

šŸ’¾

49GB Internal Storage — YES PLEASE

This is the upgrade I didn’t know I needed until I saw reviewers loving it.

The original Neo’s tiny storage basically forced you to carry a card or constantly delete clips.

The Neo 2’s 49GB gives you enough for a full afternoon of quick flights.

Perfect for someone like me who flies between road trip stops.

A Drone That Actually Joins the DJI Ecosystem

The biggest surprise?

The Neo 2 supports:

  • Gesture control

  • Voice control

  • RC controller

  • Motion Controller

  • FPV Goggles

This suddenly turns the Neo 2 into something more serious.

Those FPV-style flights look incredible — and actually controlled, not chaotic.

🌬

Stable Flight for Such a Tiny Drone

Almost every reviewer has said:

ā€œThe Neo 2 flies like a bigger drone.ā€

That’s what sold me.

It still weighs under 250g — meaning freedom to fly — but behaves in wind far better than expected. A big win for UK conditions and my usual windswept locations.

Neo vs Neo 2 — My Verdict After Watching All the Footage

The Neo was fun.

The Neo 2 looks legitimately capable.

Footage, safety, storage, control, stability — it’s an upgrade in every way that actually matters for real-world filming.

It still fits in a jacket pocket.

But now it films like a ā€œproperā€ DJI drone.

šŸ”§āœØ

Why Nix Drones Will Almost Certainly Upgrade

āœ” Better for Van-Life Filming

Quick flights between stops, golden-hour shots, coastline footage — the Neo 2 is made for this stuff.

āœ” Safer Flying

Obstacle avoidance saves drones.

Simple as that.

āœ” Footage That Matches My Other Drones

This one matters for my edits:

Neo 2 footage blends FAR better with Nemesis (Mavic 2 Pro) and Zoom (Mini 4 Pro).

āœ” More Future-Proof

Works with goggles, controllers, gesture modes… it’s the most flexible sub-250g drone DJI has made.

āœ” Still Under 250g

That means relaxed flying rules and spontaneous flights during my travels.

Final Thoughts Before I Finally Cave and Buy the Thing

After watching all the videos:

The DJI Neo 2 looks like everything the original should have been.

It’s still tiny.

Still convenient.

Still ridiculously portable.

But now it has:

  • Safety

  • Speed

  • Frame-rate muscle

  • Bigger storage

  • Better low-light

  • Proper DJI ecosystem support

So yes — the upgrade is coming.

Sneaker has done me proud, but it’s nearly time for the next tiny member of the fleet.

Expect some cracking footage once the Neo 2 joins Nix Drones.

If you’d like, I can now turn this into a full themed Wix layout with coloured sections, icons, dividers, image placeholders and a sticky intro block.
